Ted was my advisor and good friend. There are so many stories but I’ll always remember his self-introduction the first day in his class: “I’m Ted Lowi, the only Communist Jew from Gadsden, Alabama.”

I took every class he taught and will miss him, as I know many others will.

Perhaps a side of Ted Lowi that was less well known:  He played the oboe. I played a bassoon and we occasionally had great fun getting together with two others (can’t remember who they were) to play woodwind quartets. Not part of the curriculum I’m sure, but a special part of my years at Cornell.
