We had dinner with Professor and Mrs. Lowi in Barton [Hall] at Council Weekend after they had returned from a “visit” to Yale. Mrs. Lowi told us that Yale had told Professor Lowi they could make him famous. She did not like their attitude and told us that they were staying at Cornell. We were elated.

Some of our best memories of Cornell were the “dog and pony” shows Professor Lowi and Professor Silbey put on at Council Weekends -- Professor Silbey wearing his “I like Ike button” and Professor Lowi talking with his very Southern accent.  They always predicted who would win the Presidential election and they were always right.  Professor Lowi always said that we needed a third party.  I think he was right.
